"Isle St. Jean" became the "Island of St. John," and a consequential, claim-staking emigration began from the conquering British islands to what a later journalist called "the horrible Gulf of St. Lawrence." Because many Prince Edward Islanders are descended from the pioneers of that early settlement period, we presented in the previous issue of The Island Magazine three of the eleven extant nominal passenger lists for ships bound from British ports to Prince Edward Island.
