Philip and Mary Lynn Farnham were married on May 1st, 1976 in Waterloo Ontario. Their honeymoon was a one way trip to Prince Edward Island. Philip had been on the Island on an internship the year before and decided to move to the Montague area.
In June they purchased their property from Doug Glazer (who had bought it from Cal Smith) before that. They learned that this house was 140 years old at that point and was one of the four original houses built in Roseneath. The following year they bought the land along the lane from Dewar & Nelson. Philip's Father had been doing steel roofing in Woodstock, NB for 30 years and he encouraged Philip to take a small trailer load of steel with him to sell and install. The rest is history...
In 1981 the limited company was formed; P FARNHAM ROOFING LTD. Starting out, Philip worked alone, just checking when he saw building happening if they would like steel. Mary Lynn worked at Stedmans and then at the Graphic until she was employed to be the bookkeeper and sales person of the business.
Much of the original work was potato warehouses, barns and sheds, but today most of the jobs being done are house and cottage roofs.
In 2006, the 30th anniversary of this business of selling and installing steel roofing is being celebrated. Starting in June of this year, the youngest son Paul is Philip’s main helper and looks forward to learning the family business.
