A view of some of the Registerd Vessels from years ago

Some of the vessels were registered outside Canada because the owners were able to engage uncertificated officers to man the Schooners. It was difficult to obtain certificated masters and mates - standards were too high under Canada Shipping Act. It was impossible on account of educational requirements for a great majority of efficient seamen to get certificates - Gov't asked to relax regulations, nothing was done.
