Economics 101 for Settlers

In the early years, most of the major economic activity in lot 64 was the result of the Cambridge family. They had a saw-mill, a gristmill, a shipbuilding yard, and the first store in the area. John’s business ambitions may have been part of the reason he was such a reasonable landlord, as he had issues with labour shortages in the area. Maybe the Richards family immigrated here in 1808 for just that reason!  Most of the business he carried out on PEI was through trade, as there was very little actual currency on the island at the time.32.
