East Wiltshire Junior High School

East Wiltshire Junior High School was built in 1981.  It is located at 100 Kingston Road in Cornwall.  It accommodates grades seven to nine and has roughly 550 students registered for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.  East Wiltshire’s Mission Statement is as follows, “The Staff, students, board and community of East Wiltshire School share the responsibility to provide for individual student’s intellectual, physical and social growth within a secure environment. At East Wiltshire School, the staff respects the rights of the students to the best quality education possible. In return, the staff asks the students to accept their part in the responsibility accompanying the right.”1

This past January marked thirty years of students and staff walking the halls at East Wiltshire School.  The Unit 3 annual report for 1980-81 recorded the following statement, “A number of new and renovated facilities became operational for the 1980-81 school year.  After a short delay, East Wiltshire School was opened.  The total facility was not available to staff and students until January, 1981.  The former Cornwall Junior High Building was renovated to provide a primary school for grade one students of Eliot River. …”2  Please see the following scans of the first pages of the first EWS year book.

Home of the Warriors, East Wiltshire School offers many athletic and academic extra-curricular activities which include, Peer Helpers, Student Council, Yearbook, Library Monitors, Boxing Club, Yoga, Writing Club, Spelling Bee, Duck of Edinburgh, Running/Walking Club, Leadership and Wrestling Club.3  School teams and clubs consist of, cross-country, badminton, wrestling, track & field, basketball, golf, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, softball and boxing.  Those students in the Cornwall area who graduate from East Wiltshire Intermediate School move on to Bluefield High School in Hampshire.
