Pictures of the Maple Syrup Making Building
The above picture is of the front and left side of the building where the syrup
making process begins.
The above picture is of the back side of the Maple Syrup building where the evaporator machine is located. If you look at the top of this picture, you can see that there are two flaps in the side of the roof that are open. These flaps are where the steam from the evaporator escapes. There is also another two flaps on the other side of the roof. These flaps are closed in the winter as to not let any snow into the building. The stove pipe/chimney is where the smoke and small bits of coals come out. There is also a small part of the building at the back right of this picture where they store the softwood that is put into the fire for the evaporator.
The above picture is of the front side of the Maple Syrup building where the evaporator is located. The picture is taken coming up by the apple orchard field where the building is located. You can see all the nice little trees that are located outside the building. It kind of looks like the building is in a hidden place.
The above picture on the left is the sign that is usually put out on the road to show people where the Maple Syrup is being made. You follow the little road by the orchard down, until you see the building with the chimney coming out the top.
The above picture on the right is where they sell apples and sometimes some syrup. This little building is mainly where they sell apples in the autumn. The syrup is sold in many different stores in Charlottetown. There will be a little glass bottle with a Maple Leaf attached to it, and it will have MacPhees marked on the little Maple Leaf.
The next few pictures are of things that we found that were very old in the Evaporator building. They are kept there for show, more as a way to get people to ask questions and talk.
The above picture on the left is the end of an old pair of ski poles that were homemade.
The above picture on the right is the middle of a ski that was homemade. You can see the black part is just a piece of thin rubber that looks almost like a gas pedal. The other pieces that would hold your shoe/boot in place are made out of steel, and the piece that you put over your shoe is made out of what seems to be something like leather.
The above picture on the left is a full lengh picture of the homemade ski poles. In the previous page you saw a close up of the ends of these poles.
The above picture on the right is a full length picture of the homemade skis. On the previous page you saw a close up of the middle part of these skis. The wood is still in remarkable shape. The year that either one of these was made is unknown.
The above picture is of the top of an old homemade skate. I didn't take the skate off the wall to get the blade in the picture. You can just imagine that it was a very small and thin blade ( just a piece of steel that was filed to make a blade). The skate is very very old, and we are unsure exactly when it was made as well.
