Arthena M.

In 1950, the schooner Arthena M., was on its way to the Magdalene Islands, from Pictou, Nova Scotia, laden with coal.  In the late evening, the vessel  met up with a B.T.U carrying a load of hay which blocked the vision of the helmsman.  The two ships collided, creating a hole in the bow of the Athena.  One man was lucky enough to jump onto the B.T.U before the ship went under. The other two men attempted to free a dory, but did not free it in time and died.
