Santo Domingo

The Santo Domingo left Wickford, Ireland on June 23rd, 1883 bound for Newfoundland. On board were immigrants escaping the potato famine that ravaged their homeland. But, the Santo Domingo never reached it's destination. Instead, the vessel ran aground and was wrecked off East Point. Most of the immigrants were the first settlers of Elmira and their names are still found in the community today.
