Hockey Night in O'Leary
Oh! The good old hockey game,
Is the best game you can name;
And the best game you can name,
Is the good old Hockey game!
Thank you Stompin' Tom, for words that have never rung more true.
One thing that everybody out there will tell you is that going to hockey games is an experience untouched by the hands of time. No matter if it's an exhibition game or a playoff game, the fans will always be riled. Hockey fans will freeze their rear ends off before they abandon a game or stop rooting for their team.
The only thing that has changed over the years is the venue the teams play in. The fans will always follow.
For almost a century now hockey has been played in O'Leary. However, the town has had to wait for years before an outdoor skating rink was established. And even longer before the first indoor ice rink was built.
The last two decades have seen a new and modern facility raised in O'Leary, which has world-class qualities: an NHL regulation ice surface, plenty of space within, and plenty of warm spaces to escape the chill. These innovations have allowed players to be more confident in their abilities and fans to be more comfortable. The rinks of the past had qualities that made them shine in other areas, but now with this new arena fans can watch in a more "comfortable" atmosphere.
These comforts have fundamentally changed parts of the experience of "going to games" in O'Leary for the players on the ice and those cheering them on from the stands.
Hockey is a spectator sport. Always has, always will be. And hockey night in O'Leary is as exciting as it comes.
